Congratulations!  And a New Mass Schedule for the fall.

Dear Parishioners,

If you attended the 4:15 Mass last Saturday, you felt the joy of the class of 1960 as Father Fiore, their classmate, offered their 50th anniversary Mass. Even though 50 years removed from St. Cecilia School that formed their friendships, they were easily renewed. They were such a beautiful sign that friendships in Christ never end. Our parish community congratulates this year’s class of 2010 from college, high school, grade school, kindergarten, and preschool. I pray the brotherly and sisterly bonds, begun in school and made possible by Christ’s forgiveness of our hurtful sins, will be kept forever. The Class of 1960 showed us this is possible if we stay faithful to Christ through His Church.

We are proud that St. Cecilia parishioners Jessica Eby and Ryan Paulukinas were the top students in their graduation classes from Bishop Shanahan High School and Pope John Paul II Regional Catholic Elementary School. Congratulations!

We also congratulate Joye Wentz for being selected by our parishioners last weekend to be on our parish council. I thank Terri Pappas, Bob Weidner, and Dewey O’Donnell for their willingness to serve on the council. We hope you will run again next year. We also thank Bob Cavanaugh for serving his three year term on the council. Your input, insights and inspiration were always appreciated.

For about the past five to six months the parish council has been discussing, debating and debunking the many suggestions to end the car gridlock caused by the clash between our parish religious education program (PREP) and the times of the masses. We are most concerned about our children being dismissed into all the traffic. So to assure the safety of our children and to ease the traffic congestion our parish council proposed to me the only viable solution. We needed to change the times of our last three Masses. By moving the 11:15 AM Mass to 10:15 AM, PREP could now start at 10:30 AM and the cars for Mass would already be parked. By dismissing the children at 11:45 AM, the 10:15 Mass will have already exited. In addition PREP would gain a needed extra 15 minutes to complete their classes. Lastly our parishioners coming to attend the noon Spanish Mass could then just meet their children from PREP in church. Father Dininni and I decided to combine both Spanish Masses into one at this noon Mass. In order to have an hour and half between Masses the Choir Mass will be scheduled at 8:45 AM. In summary, our new weekend mass schedule will be as follows:

Saturday - 4:15 p.m. Sunday - 7 a.m., 8:45 a.m. (choir Mass), 10:15 a.m., 12 noon (Spanish).

I approve this motion from our parish council and the new Mass schedule will take effect beginning
Sunday, Sept. 12th.

I pray with all of you, that our new graduates this year will find, as our former graduates celebrated last Saturday, that Christ’s love and mercy allows friendships begun with Him and fostered through His Church to last forever. God allowed me to experience how suddenly He could have called me to Himself in my emergency heart catheterization on Tuesday, June 1st. In minutes I was made aware that God’s love and the brotherly, sisterly love for each other which His love always brings about, is all we really have and need in eternity. May the Lord bless you with both these gifts this summer and forever.

In the peace of our Lord,

Father Mulranen
